Luther Burden Injury: Eli Drinkwitz Provides Positive Update on Star WR

Almost everything was perfect Missouri on Saturday against UMass on the road. Unfortunately for Tigers fans, star wide receiver Luther’s burden left the game with one obvious injury in the third quarter.

Head coach Eli Drinkwitz provided an update on the status of Burden’s apparent shoulder injury at the start of the fourth period. It was lighthearted and positive.

“I tried to make him run 100 yards, but if you don’t get back in the game, I can’t do it,” Drinkwitz told ESPN sideline reporter Taylor Davis. “He’ll be fine.”

Burden was injured after being tackled by a quarterback on a pass over the middle Brady Cook Early in the second half, he collided with a UMass defender and fell hard to the turf below. He remained on the ground after the game and was accompanied by the coaching staff to the injury tent.

Burden didn’t quite reach 100 yards and finished the game with two carries for 68 yards, which essentially accounted for half the football. His first carry was for 61 yards and a touchdown in the first half.

After leaving the tent he was officially listed as a suspect, but is unlikely to return after he was seen having his sparrow band removed.

Taylor Davis also provided the initial injury update on Burden’s injury.

“Luther Burden came to the sideline, winced in pain and reached into his wound to grab his shoulder,” Davis said. “He spent time in the medical tent, as you saw. Head coach Eli Drinkwitz went in and spent some time with him as well.

“He has now come out of the tent but he has taken off his gloves and helmet and they are in the process of taking off his ankle strap. The official statement is questionable whether he will return, but all sides indicate that he is done for the day.”

As Missouri looks to finish its road trip to UMass, they are turning their attention back to the SEC where they will host the event Auburn Tigers in week 8.
