Big Texas Comicon, Clasico Regio, Barbacoa and Big Red Festival

Hello everyone! Welcome to the weekend. I hope you’ve visited pumpkin patches or explored haunted houses this spooky season.

Are you a barbacoa fan? If yes, you are in luck. Grab a taco or two this weekend during the Barbacoa and Big Red Festival. But if you’re not a barbacoa fan, you can always stop by the San Antonio Pizza Festival on Sunday.

Here is a list of cool events you can attend this weekend:

Happening on the weekend:

  • BARBACOA & GREAT RED FESTIVAL: HEB presents its 2024 Barbacoa and Big Red Festival on October 12th from 12pm to midnight and October 13th from 10am to 10pm at the Freeman Coliseum grounds and Expo Hall. If you’re not a barbacoa fan, the festival offers a different selection of food and drinks. General admission tickets are $20 per person. Children under 13 have free entry. Tickets can be purchased here.
  • GREAT TEXAS COMICON: Actors like the cast of “Cobra Kai” or Jon Bernthal of “The Walking Dead” and many more will be attending the Big Texas Comicon from October 11th to 13th at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. Tickets can still be purchased here.
  • FALL RIVER WALK ARTISAN SHOW: The artisan show will feature over 40 handcrafted craft booths, pottery and more October 11-13 at River Walk Extension, near the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce building and Rivercenter shops.
  • GREEN MUSIC AND WINE FESTIVAL: Enjoy live music, wine and more during the 38th annual Gruene Music and Wine Festival this weekend in New Braunfels. Admission to the Tasting and Tunes event is free with the purchase of a tasting card, available at the event, for a wine or beer tasting on October 12 from noon to 6 p.m. at The Grapevine, 1612 Hunter Road. You can also check out artists like William Clark Green or The Great Divide and enjoy festival food on October 13th from 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Gruene Hall, 1281 Gruene Road. General tickets for Sunday Showdown, including various artists, are $125 online. Further information can be found online.
  • “HAPPY FRIGHTS” & “HAUNTING NIGHTS”: During Happy Frights, guests can score photo opportunities with a jack-o-lantern or adventure through a neon light maze through October 31st. Check-in begins at 5:00 p.m. at the San Antonio Botanical Garden. Haunting Nights begins at 8 p.m. The night experience includes a pumpkin tunnel, a maze full of surprises in the neon maze and more. Tickets and further information can be found online.
  • MARKET DAYS: Visit the Pearl for Farmers Market every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to shop for local produce and meats. You can also head to Markers Market every Sunday from 10am to 2pm to view and shop from over 40 local artisans and markers who produce culinary-inspired homewares such as pottery and woodcraft. The Pearl is located at 303 Pearl Pkwy.
  • WEEKEND AT THE MARKET SQUARE: Every weekend in October from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., enjoy the day in the market square with music, food stalls and active artists.
  • PUMPKIN SPOT: Many places have brought back traditional and fun fall activities this weekend. Places like BellCreek Acres, Devine Acres Farm, Uhland Fall Fest and more are some places to visit for a fun day on the patch. For more information about opening hours and prices, see our story!
  • ZOO BOO: The San Antonio Zoo continues its annual Zoo Boo event through October 31st. This weekend, guests can dress up in costumes that fit the theme of the zoo, which will be Mystery Monster Weekend. Free trick-or-treating will take place during the zoo’s last hour of operation. Friday, October 11th

  • CINEMA NIGHT: The Cinema at Will’s Plaza in the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts will present a free screening of “Maleficent” at 7 p.m.
  • FAMILY FLICKS: The San Antonio Museum of Art will host a free screening of Coco at 200 W. Jones Ave. from 7 to 9 p.m. Art activities begin at 5 p.m
  • JEFF ARCURI: The comedian will visit the Alamo City to perform his “The Full Beans Fall Tour” at the Tobin Center at 7 p.m. Tickets are available here.
  • THE ROCK OF LA CANTERA: Celebrate Oktoberfest at The Rock at La Cantera with stein-hosting competitions, live music and German street food from 6 to 11 p.m. General admission for the event is $17.50 per person, with VIP tickets costing $75. Children under seven years of age have free entry. You can purchase tickets here.

Saturday, October 12th

  • BILL MAHER: The comedian will bring his “The WTF?” Tour” at 7:30 p.m. at the Majestic Theater. Tickets can be purchased here.
  • Cannons: The band will perform its “Heartbeat Highway Tour” at the Aztec Theater at 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased here.
  • CIBOLO FESTIVAL: The festival will feature live entertainment from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the Multi Event Center, 200 S. Main St. There will also be a craft market, a petting zoo, carnival wristbands for sale and more.
  • CLASICO REGIO: The Tigres take on their bitter rivals, the Rayados de Monterrey, at the Alamodome at 6 p.m. Tickets can be purchased here.
  • HARVEST FESTIVAL: Hemisfair is hosting its final Super Fun Saturday with HEB from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event includes free activities and entertainment, pumpkin photo ops and fall crafts. Each child will receive a small pumpkin with a kid-friendly decoration kit on a first come, first served basis.
  • LA VILLITA MARKET DAYS: Maverick Plaza transforms into an open-air marketplace at La Villita Historic Arts Village at 418 Villita St. from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Market days take place every Saturday. Visitors can enjoy arts and crafts, watch live cooking demonstrations, and more.
  • SAN ANTONIO COMEDY ALL-STARS VARIETY SHOW: Various comedians will take the stage at the Charline McCombs Empire Theater at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available here.

Sunday, October 13th

  • CHAYANNE: The artist will debut his “Bailemos Otra Vez Tour” at the Frost Bank Center at 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased here.
  • FREE COMMUNITY YOGA: Mobile Om Yoga and the San Antonio River Foundation are offering free one-hour yoga sessions at Confluence Park, 310 W. Mitchell St., every Sunday from 10 to 11 a.m. through Nov. 24.
  • HISPANIC TRAILS CULTURAL FESTIVAL: The sixth annual Hispanic Trails Cultural Festival will be held at Wonderland of the Americas from 1 to 8 p.m. The festival features Latin American-Hispanic heritage, music, folkloric dances and food from 15 Latin American-Hispanic countries, including Mexico, Cuba, Honduras and more. Admission to the cultural festival is family-friendly and free of charge.
  • LOS TEMERARIOS: The Mexican band will present its “Hasta Siempre Tour 2024” at Freeman Coliseum at 8 p.m. Tickets can be found here.
  • SAN ANTONIO PIZZA FESTIVAL: Enjoy live music and pizza as Alamo Biscuit Co. presents the second annual San Antonio Pizza Festival from 6 to 11 p.m. General admission is $20. Children and young people under 17 are admitted free when purchasing a general admission ticket.
