Port Canaveral reopened to cruise and cargo traffic at 11:30 a.m. Friday after maritime operations were suspended since Wednesday morning due to Hurricane Milton.

The U.S. Coast Guard granted Port Canaveral permission to reopen after inspecting the port’s shipping channel for debris and shoals.

Cruise ship schedule updates

The first cruise ship to enter the port channel on Friday afternoon was the MSC Seashore, which was originally scheduled to arrive on Thursday. The ship is skipping a scheduled cruise and will set sail again from Port Canaveral on Sunday.

Six additional cruise ships were scheduled to enter the port on Saturday, three arrived on the regular arrival day and three were a day late due to the port closure. They are:

  • Carnival freedom
  • Carnival Glory (originally scheduled for Friday). There will then be a shortened two-day sailing from Saturday to Monday before the regular schedule resumes.
  • Carnival carnival
  • Disney fantasy
  • Royal Caribbean Adventure of the Seas (originally scheduled to arrive on Friday)
  • Royal Caribbean Utopia of the Seas (originally scheduled to arrive Friday). There will then be a shortened two-day sailing from Saturday to Monday before the regular schedule resumes.

Four ships will leave Port Canaveral on Sunday.

  • Carnival Vista
  • Disney Wish (arrives two days late, then skips a scheduled cruise and sails again on Monday)
  • MSC Seashore
  • Royal Caribbean Wonder of the Seas

The port encourages cruise passengers to check with cruise lines for updated schedules.

The Port Canaveral-based gaming ship Victory 2 has been undergoing regular dry dock maintenance since September 8 in Charleston, South Carolina. It plans to return to Port Canaveral this weekend and then resume its twice-daily sailings on Tuesday.

There will be two cargo ships in port this weekend, one carrying slag and one carrying gasoline.

Jetty Park will reopen on Saturday

Jetty Park’s day-use park and beach in Port Canaveral was scheduled to reopen at 7 a.m. Saturday. However, Jetty Park Campground will remain closed until campground cleaning is complete. Jetty Park’s fishing pier remains closed until further notice pending repairs to the dock area expansion, railings and fish cleaning station that were damaged by the storm.

The port’s landside operations, including restaurants, reopened on Thursday.

Melbourne Airport is reopening

Melbourne Orlando International Airport reopened at 9am on Friday and resumed commercial passenger operations.

The first arrival at 9:40 a.m. was an Allegiant Air flight from Allentown, Pennsylvania. A total of 11 arrivals and departures were planned for Friday.

According to Melissa Naughton, the airport’s deputy director of business development and marketing, despite some damage to the terminal, airport employees and contractors responded quickly to allow for a timely reopening.

The damage included an approximately 30-by-40-foot hole in the roof, which is currently being repaired.

The airfield was spared from the storm.

Although the airport has returned to normal operations, airport officials encourage passengers to check with their airlines for the latest flight status updates.
