Eichel and Barbashev help the Golden Knights hold off the Blues

Pavel Buchnevich scored two goals and had an assist and Jordan Kyrou had two assists for the Blues (2-1-0), who earned a 5-4 overtime win over the San Jose Sharks on Thursday. Jordan Binnington made 24 saves.

St. Louis was unable to overcome a multi-goal deficit after doing so in each of its first two games.

“We were allowed to play for 60 minutes. That’s the goal,” Buchnevich said. “It’s always difficult to come back from two or three goals. It will never happen. We have to play 60 minutes. We have to play well at the start of the game.”

Buchnevich gave the Blues a 1-0 lead at 6:47 of the first period by scoring on the rush with a backhand from the bottom of the left circle.

Eichel made it 1-1 at 8:02 by rounding an outstretched Binnington.

Barbashev gave Vegas a 2-1 lead at 18:13 with a shot from deep.

“(Barbashev’s) is an easy read,” Eichel said. “He wins a lot of battles. He’s good on the walls. He has some underrated hands and good touch in tights. He does a lot of little things that make my job as a centerman a lot easier.”

Theodore made it 3-1 at 2:55 of the second period with a slap shot from above the left circle.
Buchnevich made it 3-2 at 7:29 with a power play goal with a wrist shot from the right circle.

“We move the puck pretty well today in San Jose and here,” Buchnevich said.

Nicolas Roy made it 4-2 at 12:53 of the third period by redirecting Theodore’s shot from the left point.

“They just adjusted the position and put our center player higher to get a big tip,” Theodore said. “We had two people in the paint shop there. “Roysy obviously did a great job getting the nail on the head.”
