Every major death in Bad Boys: Ride or Die explained

Bad Boys: Ride or Die includes several major deaths, from characters from the original films to new characters introduced in the sequel. Will Smith and Martin Lawrence return for the fourth time Bad boys The film pits Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett against the law. They are accused of being corrupt police officers working with Captain Howard, who was posthumously framed for crimes he did not commit. As they search for the real mole in the Miami Police Department, Mike and Marcus team up with Mike’s son Armando and fight to save the people they love.

Even before the epic shootout of Bad Boys: Ride or DieIn the end, death is a central part of the story. Similar to Mike’s near-death experience in Bad boys for lifeIn the fourth part, Marcus suffers a heart attack, which momentarily endangers his life. When he wakes up, he thinks he is invincible and unable to die, no matter the circumstances. The film even brings Captain Howard back from the dead by using video recordings to talk to Mike and Marcus. But Bad Boys 4 also contains many actual deaths, with some significant characters meeting their ends.

5 Fletcher

Killed by James McGrath

John Salley returns as Fletcher Bad Boys: Ride or Diebut he was ultimately killed as part of the early investigation into the belief that Captain Howard was a rat. Howard leaves Mike and Marcus a video recording of him telling them this “The Coke bottle giant is the key” to find out the truth, and Marcus finds out that he is referring to Fletcher. This leads them to Fletcher’s new art gallery/club in Miami. But when they get there, they are pursued by McGrath and his men and won’t let Fletcher give them the information they need.

Fletcher appeared in Bad Boys and Bad Boys II

The reason for Fletcher’s death is fairly vague Bad Boys: Ride or Die. It is unclear whether McGrath knows who Fletcher is and what his connection to Howard is. However, he probably deduces that Mike and Marcus came to him as part of their investigation and believe he has important information for them. Therefore McGrath shoots Fletcher in the head, killing him instantly. That leaves Mike and Marcus to deal with the rest of his armed followers, unaware of what Fletcher knew about Howard’s investigation into Miami PD and the cartels.

Although McGrath managed to kill Fletcher and briefly hinder Mike and Marcus’ investigation, they still obtained the information they needed via the QR code contained in one of Fletcher’s artworks. This gave them access to another video of Howard and more details about the original case. Fletcher ultimately died in vain, falling victim to McGrath’s attempt to continue to cover up the connection between his work and the cartels.

4 Manny

Hit by Marcus with his car and burned by a Molotov cocktail

DJ Khaled’s Manny was introduced Bad boys for life as a butcher who temporarily worked as an informant for Mike. He returns Bad Boys: Ride or Die Once Mike, Marcus and Armando return to Miaim as wanted fugitives. As Mike, Marcus and Armando are about to be escorted to McGrath, Manny and his crew roll up and take out Tabitha’s men. Manny is still angry about Mike hitting his hand with a hammer a few years ago and wants revenge by paying off the $5 million bounty on the trio.

Manny’s death in Bad Boys: Ride or Die is quite complex. Marcus runs him over with a van and pins him between two cars. The impact alone would be enough to likely kill Manny immediately or in the near future due to the injuries he would sustain. But, Bad Boys: Ride or Die leaves no doubt about Manny’s fate when one of the henchmen lights a Molotov cocktail and drops it on the hood of the van. From this follows Manny’s body catches fireand it continues to burn as Marcus, Mike and Armando drive away.

Instead of Manny becoming a supporting character that could still appear in the future Bad boys In films, his role in the franchise ends after two appearances. The very clear death scene leaves no room for a surprising twist. He ultimately dies because of his own ambitions and greed.

3 Adam Lockwood

Eaten by an alligator

One of the most notable deaths in Bad Boys: Ride or Die is Adam Lockwood. He is a new character introduced as a former lawyer running for mayor of Miami. As Rita’s boyfriend, Adam is part of a power couple in Miami who seems to have a bright future in politics. However, Bad Boys: Ride or Die reveals that he is the mole who has informed the cartel about the government and police’s activities and plans over the years. The discovery turns Rita against him and he is supposed to serve as a pawn in bringing down McGrath.

Lockwood plays his part in it Bad Boys: Ride or Dieis over, but the plan goes awry when Mike doesn’t shoot McGrath. This leaves Lockwood alone in the middle of the gunfire and he uses the resulting chaos as an opportunity to escape. This doesn’t end well for him as he hijacks a plane and crashes in Gatorville. Lockwood survives the crash, but Rita finds him when he tries to escape again. After he starts running at her, she throws him off a ledge into the alligator-infested water below.

Lockwood’s death occurs when The albino alligator eats him at the foot of Gatorville. The remains of his body are not shown, but the blood-soaked water that surrounds the alligator during the attack makes it pretty clear that he does not survive. This is the end of his story in the franchise, as the power-hungry politician exits after once again putting his own desires above all others.

2 James McGrath

Killed by Mike Lowrey

As the main villain of Bad Boys: Ride or DieJames McGrath’s death was always expected. The former DEA agent turned cartel ally and smuggler was the one who helped orchestrate the death of Captain Howard Bad boys for lifeas revealed in a retcon of the fourth episode. Howard was aware of McGrath’s dealings and was close to exposing the corruption he and Lockwood had spread throughout Miami, making him a target. Mike and Marcus were two of Howard’s closest allies, making them targets at the time Bad Boys 4while Armando has seen him before.

Bad Boys 4 completely changes Captain Howard’s death with a major retcon

Bad Boys: Ride or Die makes the death of Captain Howard (Joe Pantoliano) an important part of the story and even addresses the motives behind it.

The film pits McGrath against Mike, Marcus, and Armando for most of its running time, and it all culminates in Gatorville. However, the ultimate showdown occurs between Mike and McGrath. The villain has taken Mike’s wife Christine hostage at this point and he also captures Marcus on the beach. McGrath believes he has put Mike in an impossible situation where he has to choose whether Marcus or Christine will die. However, Mike shoots Marcus with his vest so that he can get a clean shot at McGrath.

After shooting the villain a few times in the chest, Mike kills McGrath with a bullet through the head. He then falls back into the sea and his body is subsequently recovered by law enforcement. This continues the franchise’s trend of the main villain dying at the end of the film like every other main villain Bad boys The antagonist didn’t survive the credits either.

1 Sanchez & Ruiz

Died off-screen after Bad Boys II

In addition to the deaths of major characters that happen on screen Bad Boys: Ride or DieThe film also sneaks in the confirmation of two other significant deaths. The original featured former police officers Sanchez and Ruiz from the Miami Police Department Bad boys as Mike and Marcus’ older rivals, but by this point they were already retired Bad Boys II happened. They were also left out Bad boys for lifeAnd Bad Boys 4 explains that this is because they both died between the second and third installments.

Captain Howard confirms this surprising revelation in one of his video messages to Mike and Marcus. At one point, he needed help with his investigation and asked Sanchez and Ruiz to come out of retirement and secretly work on the case. However, They died in a car accident a week after Howard brought her back into police work. It is unclear whether the car accident that killed Sanchez and Ruiz was a real accident or an intentional event caused by the cartel when they got too close to each other during their investigative work.

Confirmation that Sanchez and Ruiz were previously killed off-screen Bad Boys: Ride or Die has two ultimate purposes. This further tied Howard’s investigation into the franchise by including additional well-known characters and clarifying lingering questions about what happened to them. Knowing that Sanchez and Ruiz returned to work only to end in their deaths is a tragic revelation, as they could have otherwise had a happier ending. But it reflects real life to some extent, as Ruiz’s actor Julio Oscar Mechoso died in 2017, years before Bad Boys: Ride or Die confirmed his character’s fate.
