Fans flock to the first concert at Pinnacle Bank Arena since the shooting nearby

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Hip-hop fans in Lincoln were on alert hours before attending a concert Friday at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

The $uicideboy$ show is the first concert at PBA since a shooting after the Sexxy Red show last month.

A 19-year-old suffered minor injuries and two people were arrested in the shooting at Q Street and Canopy Street.

Some fans who waited in line hours before Friday’s concert said they had no need to worry about safety.

Cameron Kelly traveled from Iowa to attend and said everything that happened was out of his control.

“You can’t stop people from behaving badly,” he said.

A downtown Lincoln resident, Emily Popovich, said the arena needs more security.

“I’ve been to concerts at the Pinnacle and I feel like you just walk through there and they don’t pat you down,” she said. “So there’s always the possibility that someone will bring something.”

Others who live downtown, like Jaden Shum, agree.

“Additional security would be safer for everyone,” he said. “I don’t think you can have enough security at such a large event, especially at Pinnacle Bank.”

A Channel 8 reporter reached out to PBA but never received a response.

Lincoln police said additional officers will be on site to direct traffic after the show.

A fan who came to Lincoln from Dallas for the concert said $uicideboy$’s fan base is trustworthy.

“I think the atmosphere and the crowd that will be here tonight will be a completely different crowd,” he said. “They kind of refer to us as a family, and most people behave that way. Of course there are a few bad apples in a family, but I don’t think that will matter tonight.”
