Suspects posing as DTE employees murder an elderly Rochester Hills man and his bound wife in the home

Oakland County Sheriff’s Office investigators outside a home in the 3700 block of Newcastle Drive in Rochester Hills.

An elderly man was murdered and his wife was tied up in a Rochester Hills home, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office. He said the two suspects were posing as DTE workers at the time of the incident.

Both suspects, described as a thin black man and a stocky Latino man, are at large. The authorities consider them armed and dangerous.

The sheriff told FOX 2 that outside the home in the 3700 block of Newcastle Drive where the murder occurred, the suspects killed the 72-year-old homeowner in the basement and tied up his wife, who was left upstairs.

She managed to free herself and call 911 to alert authorities, but not before the suspects searched the home for more than 20 minutes.

It is unclear what was taken.

The two suspects originally came to the house around 10pm on Thursday night and told the couple they were concerned about a gas leak – before being turned away. They returned to the address Friday, the sheriff said, adding that they were allowed entry.

“The man went with them into the basement where the gas enters the house, and the woman never saw him again,” said Sheriff Michael Bouchard.

The female victim was taken to the hospital.

Authorities searched for security footage from neighboring homes in hopes of finding identifying information. Bouchard said they arrived in a white pickup truck with a DTE sign on the side.

This is a developing story. Check back later for more details.
