Sarasota Bradenton International Airport contractors and employees worked to repair two sections of the main concourse roof that were damaged by Hurricane Milton in hopes of reopening the airport by Saturday afternoon.

Repair work began Thursday after crews assessed damage from Hurricane Milton. The airport’s CEO and president, Rick Piccolo, said he hoped to have repairs completed by the end of the week so flights could resume Saturday afternoon.

However, Piccolo said Friday morning that it could take longer.

“Things aren’t looking good for tomorrow,” Piccolo told the Herald-Tribune around 10:30 a.m. Friday morning

Piccolo said contractors met with Piccolo at SRQ Friday morning to determine next steps for repairs

Bradenton: Regular waste disposal will resume from Monday.

North harbor: Regular Thursday and Friday pickups will take place on Saturday (trash only, no recycling). The normal trash and recycling collection schedule will resume Monday.

Venice: Normal collection of garbage, recyclables and properly processed garden waste has resumed for private customers of the City of Venice.

City of Sarasota: The missed Thursday pickup due to Hurricane Milton will take place on Friday, October 11th and the regular Friday pickup will take place on Saturday, October 12th. Please note: Recycling will not be picked up at the recycling center on these two days due to a power outage. Additionally, regular garden waste collections are now suspended indefinitely. Residents should place their regular yard waste on their curbside vegetative storm waste for pickup.

Sarasota County: Garbage and yard waste collection for residents of unincorporated Sarasota County will resume regular pickups on streets accessible to collection vehicles on Friday, October 11th. Recycling collection has been suspended until further notice.

Manatee County: Regular Thursday pickup occurs on Friday and Friday pickup occurs on Saturday.

The City of Sarasota announced that the John Ringling Bridge and the North Bridge to Siesta Key have reopened, providing access to Bird Key, Lido Key, St. Armands and Siesta Key.

Water service has been restored on Anna Maria Island and parts of the town of Longboat Key. As a precautionary measure, boil water until tests confirm it is safe to consume.
