Major airports and businesses across Florida announced they would reopen Friday, two days after Hurricane Milton hit the state as a Category 3 storm.

Millions of homes and businesses remained without power early Friday. However, major amusement parks in Florida, including Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando and SeaWorld, said their parks would be open Friday after assessing damage from the hurricane.

“We are grateful that Walt Disney World Resort has weathered the storm,” the company said on its website, announcing it would reopen for regular operating hours on Friday.

The statement added: “Our hearts go out to our fellow Floridians who were impacted by this storm.”

Orlando International Airport, Florida’s busiest airport, and Tampa Airport said they would reopen Friday, another sign that the state is trying to get back to business.

Hurricane Milton made landfall late Wednesday in Siesta Key, Florida – about 70 miles south of Tampa.

While damage was widespread across the state, residents expressed relief that the storm’s impact was not as severe as initially predicted.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said the state has avoided the “worst-case scenario.”

“You’re going to be facing two hurricanes in a couple of weeks – that’s not easy to weather – but I’ve seen great resilience across this state,” the governor said during a briefing in Sarasota, adding that he was “very confident that this is the case in this area. “I’ll get back on my feet very, very quickly.”

Hurricane Milton comes just two weeks after the southeastern United States was devastated by Hurricane Helene, a storm that killed more than 200 people.
