Local elections are preparing for November 5th

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – As we are less than a month away from Election Day, local election offices are preparing.

Postal voting is already underway. Jason Demond, director of the Board of Elections, said more than 4,000 ballots were requested. He said they met with local officials and law enforcement to ensure polling place security.

He also wants to show people that they are making great efforts to ensure that the election is fair and accurate. They do things like logic and accuracy tests, mock elections and tests on all of their counting machines and they have multiple machines counting votes at the same time.

“It’s very similar to a bank. I used to run a bank and a credit union, and really the only difference is we don’t have any money in our vault,” Demond said. “We have ballot papers, but we have checks and balances for everything and at the bank it’s called double checking. “We have a lot more than just double checking here when it comes to elections.”

The deadline to register to vote is October 11th and early voting begins October 17th.
