Cole Caufield opens the scoring for the Habs 2024-25 season

The Montreal Canadiens began their scoring drive for the 2024-25 season with the stick of Cole Caufield.

Wearing his new number 13, Caufield fired a shot past Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Anthony Stolarz. Caufield looked like a kid in a candy store and the fans went crazy. The tally was the 150th point of Caufield’s career, in game number 206.

Caufield’s first tally of the season was the third straight season opening game in which Caufield scored a goal. The scoring that intrigued the Habs when selecting Caufield has led to some consistency. Scoring a goal in the first game is a great way for him to hit the ground running.

How will confidence affect game #2 etc.?

Caufield doesn’t necessarily have to be the only one to score for the Habs to be successful, but when he does, it’s definitely a huge achievement. So when he scored a goal in the Habs’ season opener, it was a reason to be excited and hopeful for what was to come. Caufield has the ability to score in the 40-50 range like no one else on the team not named Patrik Laine.

With the Boston Bruins next on the schedule, the Canadiens will have their hands full and Caufield would go a long way in continuing his scoring prowess. Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman will be riding a wave of confidence with his new contract. Therefore, it’s best for Caufield to get some pucks to the net early and often.

Certain teams are just more fun to score against, the Bruins and Leafs being at the top of the list. If Caufield can score another goal against the Bruins and start a winning streak, I can’t see him not being able to have a new high-scoring career in his career. The top line is healthy and the team has some confidence with Samuel Montembeault shutting down the rival Maple Leafs who know what to expect.

I have a good feeling about Caufield and the team should definitely be in the right position to hit the ground running and take a big step this season.
