Why TikTok users thank Beyoncé for everything

Did you thank Beyoncé today?

If you’ve been on TikTok in the last few days, you’ve probably noticed users thanking Beyoncé for seemingly everything.

You may have noticed that at almost every awards show, celebrities thank Beyoncé in their speeches. Kanye stormed onto the stage as Taylor Swift beat Beyoncé for Album of the Year; Adele lost her lead over Beyoncé when she won Album of the Year; Britney Spears, Lizzo, Lady Gaga, the list goes on.

And why shouldn’t you thank Beyoncé? She is the Goat, the Queen and one of the most popular, powerful and important artists of the 21st century. As someone who has seen them live several times, I can’t disagree. Thank you, Beyonce.

Mashable Top Stories

Celebrity thanks have reached TikTok, where users thank Beyoncé on Thanksgiving, or for their dog not getting cancer, or for… nothing?

Most of the posts on the internet seem pretty harmless. People thank Beyoncé for the big and everyday things in her life. However, there is an unfounded conspiracy theory that could be underlying the trend that most posters may not be aware of – a theory that has to do with Beyoncé’s god-like power and the religious iconography in the musician’s songs and music videos. Forbes, for example, wrote that the “meme appears to have emerged from a bizarre mix of conspiracy theories” that resurfaced after the arrest of Sean “Diddy” Combs. Jojo Siwa even made a reference to it during a speech at the Industry Dance Awards.

But ultimately, the TikTok trend is all about people having fun thanking Beyoncé for anything and everything.

Update: This story has been updated with new information about the trend and reflects the nature of most TikTokkers’ posts.
