Marcus Trufant raises the 12th man flag for the Seahawks on TNF

The Seattle Seahawks certainly have the best pregame tradition in the National Football League by having a notable Seattle icon raise the 12th man flag before kickoff. On Sunday of Week 5, the Seahawks hosted one of their best players in franchise history, Walter Jones. On Thursday night, the Seahawks may be wearing the uniforms of the 1990s, but it’s clear they still feel nostalgia for the 2000s.

Longtime Seahawk cornerback Marcus Trufant will have the honor of raising the flag on Thursday.

Originally the No. 11 pick in the Seahawks’ 2002 NFL Draft, Trufant quickly became a mainstay in Seattle’s secondary. The Washington State graduate played for his hometown team and spent 11 of his 12 seasons in the league with the Seahawks.

Overall, Trufant recorded 646 tackles and 21 interceptions, with a career-best seven tackles during the 2007 season. One can certainly argue that Trufant played a key role in the founding of the Legion of Boom, having spent three years under Pete Carroll from 2010 to 2012. But perhaps his greatest accomplishment was helping lead the Seahawks to their first Super Bowl appearance in franchise history as a starter on the popular 2005 team.
