Tony Khan discusses the possibility of splitting the AEW roster

AEW has a growing roster, with several well-known stars and promising, younger wrestlers regularly being added to the promotion, resulting in some stars receiving less television time. A roster split has been touted as a solution to give all AEW stars adequate time on one of AEW’s three shows. This was reportedly discussed in advance of AEW Collision’s airing last year.

During a recent media call ahead of the WrestleDream pay-per-view, Khan was asked by a journalist if he would consider splitting the roster following the new TV rights deal with WBD. Khan explained that it was an interesting idea and that he had thought about it in the past.

“That’s not a bad thought; it’s an interesting thought. I’ve definitely thought about a lot of iterations of roster management and I’m still working on some really interesting things regarding the future of AEW media and the future of the roster. It’s still early to speculate on that.” “Frankly, it’s a very interesting thought and I’ve thought about it and thought about it,” Khan said.

He reiterated that it’s an idea he might consider at some point in the future, but promised that there are more interesting things planned for AEW. AEW’s plans for a roster split were apparently scrapped after CM Punk left the promotion last year.

Following recent news of AEW signing a new deal with WBD, there have been rumors that “AEW Rampage”, one of AEW’s three TV shows, could be canceled in favor of a new show on Fox, likely replacing “WWE SmackDown”. The future of ROH, AEW’s sister brand, is currently uncertain as it was not part of the new deal AEW signed with WBD.
