As millions of people moved out of the path of Hurricane Milton as it approached Florida, some people took part in a £54,000 “survival challenge”.

Kick streamer Shaun Sharkey, 18, was arrested after breaking into an apartment near Tampa, Florida, that narrowly escaped the storm.

As MailOnline reports, he was also known as Shoovy and could be seen using a screwdriver to gain entry to the building in footage broadcast on the live streaming platform.

Mr Sharkey was then seen holding a knife next to an open door before officers were heard inside the building.

An officer said: “Come here immediately!” Otherwise I will finish you off. “Get down, get down, put your phone away.”

The 18-year-old was then arrested on camera before the video was cut off.

He was charged with burglary and resisting an officer and was given a £766 bond for the second charge, according to arrest records on the Sarasota sheriff’s website.

Mr Sharkey, whose Kick channel was taken down, later claimed on X that it was his friend’s apartment.

Another Kick streamer, Adin Ross, was criticized for offering a prize of £70,000 – or £54,000 – for streamers who tracked Hurricane Milton.

Mr Ross did not mention Mr Sharkey’s arrest when he addressed the challenge in an X post on Wednesday evening.

He said, “Listen.” $70,000 was promised to two specific streamers. Not everyone, you have to get to safety and evacuate. Please protect yourself, it’s not worth it.’

Another streamer, Mike Smalls Jr., claimed to have only an air mattress, ramen and an umbrella while livestreaming outside Wednesday night.

When he was informed that Mr. Ross would not pay him the prize money, he panicked and said, “I’m risking my life out here to feed my family.”

Mr. Smalls later appeared on a Kick stream with Mr. Ross, who told him: “I said I would give you $10,000 if you found shelter. ‘You found shelter.’

Mr Smalls shared the clip on X today and said: “Do you think he’s actually going to go through with this?”
