5 things about Anthony Edwards in the Netflix series

Netflix’s latest entry into sports documentaries dropped on Wednesday with the release of From 5. Among the stars watched by Netflix camera crews throughout the 2023-24 season was Wolves star guard Anthony Edwards.

Here are five things we learned from watching the series…

Edwards’ first comments on the series come as a shock to anyone who has watched the numerous highlight reels featuring the guard.

“I don’t like dunking at all, to be honest,” Edwards said.

For a man who has already seen seemingly half the league as a poster in his young career, this is a somewhat surprising revelation. Edwards explained that dunking “hurts” unless it involves dunking on someone.

“But I like diving on people,” Edwards said.

It’s just the first taste of Edward’s personality coming through as one of the show’s standout characters.

Even though Edwards is an NBA superstar, he’s still a big boy at heart. As Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson showed off in the Netflix series Recipient In the TV series earlier this year, Edwards’ food choices can often be less than ideal for an athlete.

“For the first few years I just showed up. I just try to go out and bounce. That didn’t work. “I had to stretch, move around and do strength training,” Edwards said of his physical routine. “I had to start eating better and adopt better habits. So I think it’s super important to take care of your body.”

“The preparation is just going better for me now,” Edwards said in the last episode. “I think that’s just the most important thing.” Because I don’t eat the best, you know? My taste buds haven’t made the transition yet. People say that your taste buds change over the years. I haven’t gotten there yet. I definitely feel like I’ve grown up a lot this season.”

Edwards also revealed that his uncle still packs his bags for him before he goes on road trips.

“Uncle Drew, he has a million things to do. Since I’m a terrible packer, I don’t pack my own stuff. Because I’ll just throw it in and everything will be crumpled. And I’ll forget things. I’ll… it’s just a lot of stuff getting into me. I’ve never packed my clothes before, so why start now? “Do you know what I mean?” Edwards said. “I mean, it seems kind of weird that he would do that, but it’s, I mean, he… he finds fun in it. I think he likes OCD or something.”

The 23-year-old also revealed his serious habit of playing video games, which he described as “essential to my life” and “the only other thing I do most often besides playing basketball.”

Although Edwards and those around him still displayed some self-described childish habits, they noticed a major developmental period for him last year.

The birth of his child was the highlight of an episode. Edwards left a late-season game against the Kings at halftime, something he had previously lamented, indicating he doesn’t want to miss a game.

“I can’t talk about fatherhood as a whole, but it’s the best feeling in the world right now for sure,” Edwards said. “Parenting and basketball, I mean, I have a life here.” I have a life here. So yeah, it’s pretty simple. I go here and I am a person. And I come home and I’m a completely different person.”

Edwards’ friend Shannon Jackson told the Netflix team that she saw a “total difference” from Edwards off the field after the birth of her daughter. However, that hasn’t diminished Ant’s drive off the pitch.

“His obsession with the game is crazy,” Jackson said. “I think this year he’s really, really focused on basketball. “He’s very competitive. He’s really good when he gets competitive. He wants this to be his big year. (his( fire has been lit. He is coming.”

“This year I lived my dream. I made my second All-Star Game. Beat my idol (Kevin Durant). I had my daughter Aislynn. And I bought a crib, you know, for my family so that we could feel stable and, you know, finally get a place where we know that this is our home. “It’s certainly crazy how fast and circular life goes,” Edwards said. “My goal this year was just to get through the first round of the playoffs. I achieved that goal and wanted a little more. We wanted more.”

The Wolves reached the playoffs as number 3 and hosted the Phoenix Suns in the first round. This duel meant a showdown with Ant’s favorite player, Kevin Durant.

“When I realized we were going to play Phoenix in the playoffs, I was definitely super happy because I think, as the world knows, KD is my favorite player of all time,” Edwards said. So I was super happy to play against him and just see it eye to eye for the first time.”

The Wolves ended up defeating the Suns in four games, which Edward was “bad” about.

“He just said, ‘Man, you’re my favorite player,'” Edwards said of his conversation with Durant after the series. “He did my whole thing…like I said, I won in life. I mean, what more do I need? He told me during Game 4 he was like, ‘You are the truth’.”

The Wolves then defeated the Suns and battled through a difficult seven-game series against the defending champion Nuggets. Minnesota bounced back from three straight losses to beat Denver in Game 7 at the Nuggets Arena. After the game, Edwards was asked by TNT about his initial thoughts about playing Dallas in the Western Conference finals, with Ant revealing he would be defending Kyrie Irving.

The Mavs then prevailed against the Wolves and reached the final with a 3-1 series win.

“Yeah, I should have left Kyrie alone. “Yeah, I’m saying this right after I was so bone-tired fighting back against Game 7, I wish I could go back and take that back,” Edwards said. “I was damn tired. I was… it’s me. I’m not going to lie. It’s nonsense, but I was tired.

Edwards also said the Wolves “underestimated” the Mavs in the Western Conference finals.

As the series concluded, Edwards had a message for everyone preparing for the 2024-25 season.

“Buckle up.”
