Disney World warns guests about Hurricane Milton

As Hurricane Milton Disney World in Orlando is moving toward Florida’s east coast and has issued an official warning to its guests urging caution and preparation for possible severe weather. The Category 3 storm made landfall Thursday, including the Orlando area Heavy rain, strong winds and flooding are expected.

In an update posted to its website Thursday morning, Disney World announced adjustments to its operations, including the temporary closure of attractions and entire parks.

What is closed at Disney World?

The update confirmed that Walt Disney World’s iconic theme parks, water parks, amusements and Disney Springs are now closed until Thursday, October 10.

Guests have been informed that planned outdoor events, parades and performances may be canceled or postponed. The resort is prepared to offer refunds or rebooking options for those whose plans are disrupted by the hurricane.

As stated in the update, operational impacts include:

Theme parks and Disney Springs

All theme parks and Disney Springs – including parking garages – are currently closed and will remain closed on Thursday, October 10th. This also includes the cancellation of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party (event tickets will be refunded).

For partially used multi-day tickets, ticket expiration dates will be adjusted to expire on October 11, 2025.

Disney Resort Hotel Closings

Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground and the Treehouse Villas at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa are temporarily closed. They are expected to remain closed until Sunday, October 13th.

Disney Resort Hotels – Food and Drink

Select dining locations will remain open for guests currently staying at Disney Resort hotels. Guests are encouraged to check the food and restaurant pages on the Disney app or website.

Disney Resort Hotels – Activities

Disney notes that some activities may be available to guests at the Disney Resort Hotel, including use of the fitness center, free Disney movies in the resort’s hotel rooms and surprise visits from characters in the lobby

Disney’s Vero Beach Resort

Wind & Waves Grill will be closed for breakfast on Thursday, October 10th. The spa at Disney’s Vero Beach Resort is closed until Thursday, October 10th.

  • Walt Disney World Transportation is temporarily unavailable.
  • Minnie Van service is temporarily unavailable.

The following locations will be closed until Thursday, October 10th:

  • Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park
  • Fantasia Gardens and Fairways Mini Golf
  • Winter Summerland mini golf

Disney’s Blizzard Beach water park remains closed for planned renovations.

Disney noted that prepaid bookable experiences will be automatically refunded within 7 to 10 business days.

The National Hurricane Center has warned that Hurricane Milton could be one of the deadliest storms on record for West Central Florida, according to The Insurer, bringing dangerous storm surges along the coast and winds of up to 120 miles per hour in Central Florida .

Local authorities are urging both tourists and residents to follow evacuation instructions in coastal areas and stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary.

Newsweek emailed the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the National Hurricane Center on Thursday seeking comment.

Despite the weather threat, Disney emergency response teams are well equipped to handle the storm’s impacts. The company has successfully managed similar hurricanes in recent years, including Hurricanes Dorian (2019) and Ian (2022).

Guests are encouraged to check official Disney channels or the My Disney Experience app for updates. Disney continues to provide updates and resources directly to guests, including information about available accommodations if needed.
