Sports media professionals and fans cheered on TBS for its in-depth interview with Kansas City Royals legend George Brett during ALDS Game 3 on Wednesday night.

As the Royals battled the New York Yankees in the bottom of the third, TBS devoted the entire half-inning to reporter Jon Morosi’s interview with Brett.

Brett shared stories from his own playing time against the Yankees, including a great flashback (accompanied by video) of his game-winning home run in the upper deck against Yankees closer Goose Gossage in the 1980 ALCS.

Such in-game interviews with sports legends can be fun, provided they’re short. This was not a short interview. Overall, everyone agreed that it took far too long and came at the expense of the action on the pitch.

FS1’s Nick Wright, a Royals fan, called the interview “pretty ridiculous.”

I’m from Kansas City, born and raised.

The Royals are the only baseball I ever really cared about.

And even *I* find an interview with George Brett from the stands during an entire half-inning during Game 3 of the ALDS pretty ridiculous. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

In the Yankees’ radio booth, analyst Suzyn Waldman took the opportunity to share a conversation with a friend in which she complained about the coverage Brett has received.

“A friend of mine said to me today about George Brett, ‘George Brett gets more TV time than Taylor Swift did when she started going to Chiefs games.’ Every time I look, George Brett is on TV.'”

Other sports media outlets were equally baffled and/or irritated by TBS’s Brett interview.

Nothing against Brett or Morosi, because someone at TBS gave the green light for this interview to last the entire half inning. But as the saying goes: sometimes less is more.
