Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes are happy about being San Antonio Spurs on media day

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Spurs gained more veteran experience in the offseason by acquiring Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes.

Both Paul and Barnes not only bring NBA Finals experience to a roster that largely hasn’t played a playoff game, but also a wealth of knowledge that can help mold this team’s younger players.

Upon hearing from Paul and Barnes, they both shared what they expect for the upcoming season and what the process of signing with the Spurs was like.

“Not only did I choose Spurs, they obviously chose me too,” Paul said. “So when I look at the team and just the ability to play, you know, play to be able to play again, I think that’s the motivation to compete and look at the team that they here have, obviously pop. You know, it looks like it could be a good fit and I’m just excited about the new experience.”

“I think the difference between me and CP (Chris Paul) is about seven years, and the difference between me and Jeremy (Sochan) is about 11 years. I mean, we have a wide range of guys on this roster, but I “I think the most important thing is just establishing habits,” Barnes said. “You know, this way you get better every day and judge yourself based on an internal metric rather than trying to get external approval, right? That’s what you try to do every day in this league. It’s difficult, especially as a young guy trying to establish himself and things like that, but I think for all of our guys, trending in the right direction will pay off big now and in the long run.”

Another metric the Spurs mentioned during media day was the playoffs-or-bust mentality heading into this season.
