Anthony Edwards went after Jayson Tatum in the new Netflix documentary after the Wolves’ win

Netflixs From 5A documentary offering an unfiltered look into the lives of five professional basketball players premiered Tuesday, and the show included a juicy tidbit about Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards and Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum from a game between the two teams in 2023-24.

The first episode focused on Edwards’ starring role in a game against the Celtics in November 2023, a 114-109 overtime win for the Timberwolves in which Edwards scored a game-high 38 points, played strong defense against Tatum down the stretch, and Ball gained possession after coming into conflict with the Celtics star early in overtime.

After the game, in a locker room moment in front of rolling Netflix cameras, Edwards mocked Tatum’s perceived status – by some – as the “best player in the league.”

“You saw how Tatum tried to get me on the counter, how he locked his ass twice. He started talking shit. “I’ll be back.” I’m talking about the best player in the league, you’re crazy.

Edwards may have won that battle, but Tatum won the next battle between the two stars, top scoring with 45 points and leading Boston to an overtime victory in the two clubs’ next meeting in January. And Tatum, whose Celtics went on to win the NBA title, ultimately got the last laugh in the 2023-24 season.

But there’s no doubt that Edwards, who established himself as a two-pronged force and helped the Timberwolves reach the Western Conference finals for the first time since the 2003-04 season, is closing the gap on the league’s best players.

And Edwards’ bad talk about Tatum is now out there and may give the Celtics star some extra motivation the next time the two meet. Edwards and Tatum will face each other twice again in the 2024-25 regular season, first on November 24th and again on January 2nd.
