NY Times columnist pokes fun at Kamala Harris’ friendly interview with radio host Howard Stern

New York Times columnist Michelle Cottle on Tuesday mocked Vice President Kamala Harris’ interview with liberal radio host Howard Stern, saying the Democratic candidate spent an “hour in the warm embrace” of the radio host.

“Stern was a little too openly smooching for my taste, but I like a little more spice in my political interviews,” Cottle wrote, suggesting Harris next play “Hot Ones,” where host Sean Evans asks his guests questions while trying You to eat hot wings with different sauces.

Stern was one of three friendly interview stops for Harris this week, as she also appeared on ABC’s “The View” and with late-night host Stephen Colbert. Stern, a major critic of former President Trump, told the vice president during the interview that he would vote for her and repeatedly blasted Harris’ opponents.

“Yes, people who were hoping to find serious political discussions on the Stern show were out of luck. But frankly, it is unlikely that voters who are undecided at this late stage will make their decision based on the details of the candidates’ tax plans,” Cottle wrote.

“Who could resist the opportunity to outsource some Trump bashing to a professional trash talker like Stern, who is known to despise the MAGA king?” the columnist added.

During an hour-long live interview with the Democratic presidential candidate, Stern repeatedly criticized Trump and expressed disbelief that anyone would vote for him. He once claimed that the sun would “set” if Trump were re-elected.

“With all the pressure on you right now and you have to win, you just have to win,” he told Harris. “I truly believe we are in for the darkest skies on the planet, like the sun is literally going out. God bless you for doing that,” he said of her presidential bid.

“Howard, I’m doing everything I can to make sure he doesn’t win,” Harris replied.

Cottle wrote that among the “juicy parts” of the interview was “that the vice president is no slouch; that she likes Doritos and puzzles; that her favorite F1 driver is Lewis Hamilton; that she went to see U2 at the Sphere; and that a rare area of musical agreement between her and Doug, her husband, is their love for Prince.

She noted that she had spoken to the Harris campaign about her media strategy and wrote that the Democratic team hopes to meet voters where they are.
