Timothée Chalamet switches from Barb to Bob. He plays the role of Bob Dylan in James Mangold’s film A completely unknown, will be released on December 25th. We finally get to see the results of Chalamet’s extensive preparation for the role, which apparently included jamming to “like a 12-hour playlist” of unreleased Dylan songs. A complete unknown The focus is on the fateful Newport Music Festival, where Dylan went electric. The moment was previously depicted by Todd Haynes I’m not there. Also somehow in there Factory girl? Timothée Chalamet slips into the rock star lifestyle and leaves a pretty good vocal impression. He covers “Girl From the North Country” and “Like a Rolling Stone.” A complete unknownis the latest trailer that follows Dylan’s emotionally turbulent rise to superstardom after he leaves Minnesota to “catch a spark” in New York. He smokes, sings and seems trapped in a love triangle – all while thinking about what kind of music he wants to make. Some people want to turn down his electrical device, but he wants to play it loud. Experience the energy of BDE (Bob Dylan) in the full clip above.

Mangold had already given away deadline details about the project during advertising in Cannes last May Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destinywith the director revealing that Benedict Cumberbatch would play folk legend Pete Seeger in the film. Seeger was on the ground floor of the Dylan standom, supporting the singer before he became famous and inviting him to Newport in the first place. However, due to scheduling conflicts, Ed Norton reportedly stepped in as a replacement – and there are pictures of him playing a banjo to prove it.

Chalamet and Norton will join Top Gun: Maverickare Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez and Elle Fanning as Sylvie Russo, a fictional Dylan lover in the early 1960s. Boyd Holbrook will give his best shot to Johnny Cash, the director revealed in a new interview Rolling Stone. Deadline also reported on a number of other new additions, including Scoot McNairy, Dan Fogler, Will Harrison, Charlie Tahan, PJ Byrne, Eli Brown, Nick Pupo, Big Bill Morganfield, Laura Kariuki, Eric Berryman, David Alan Basche, Joe Tippett and James Austin Johnson. No character details were revealed in this casting dump. Unfortunately for Chalamet, Austin Butler is still not on board.

Yes, actually! Mangold confirmed in an interview with that Chalamet and Barbaro recorded live as Dylan and Baez Rolling Stone. “But it’s not like I don’t have an alternate take or the ability to replace that one beat if one of our actors hits a bad note,” he said. “If Timmy is brave enough to stand out there and make himself vulnerable by engaging in this, I should be brave enough to stand behind the camera and shoot.” Additionally, Chalamet faced several COVID-related production delays and false starts and Barbaro time to hone their musical skills. “Timmy was a partner in this,” Mangold said. “He really wanted it.”

The release date for A complete unknown is not a complete unknown. Mangold accelerated post-production plans to bring it to the screen this Christmas, December 25th.
