Netflix comedy series Jeff Goldblum will not get a second season

Kaos will no longer rule.

Netflix has canceled the Greek mythology comedy starring Jeff Goldblum after one season. Aurora Perrineau, one of the stars of Kaosappeared to confirm the cancellation in a now-deleted Instagram post. Deadline believes the message is legitimate. Netflix has been contacted for comment.

Kaos was first given the green light in 2018 after Charlie Covell (The end of the damn world). The series was produced by British drama star Sister and Deadline understands that preparations for a second season were already well underway.

Goldblum plays the lead role Kaos as Zeus, who begins to fear the end of his reign when he discovers a wrinkle on his forehead that makes him paranoid and spiteful towards his followers. Meanwhile, three mortals (Perrineau, Misia Butler and Leila Farzad) embark on a journey to fulfill their identical prophecies.

Season 1 was ambitious in scope and featured an ensemble cast that included Janet McTeer as Hera, Nabhaan Rizwan as Dionysus, Cliff Curtis as Poseidon, David Thewlis as Hades, Debi Mazar as Medusa and Stephen Dillane as Prometheus. The show also starred Suzy Izzard, Billie Piper, Killian Scott and more.

Kaos remained open-ended, and Covell spoke of a vision for three seasons. “There’s definitely more,” the author said last month. “Also, I didn’t want to end with a complete cliffhanger. I hope it feels satisfying as a standalone season, and there’s always hope for more. Because I would really like to do more.”

In her now-deleted Instagram post, Perrineau said:

“Well… this one hurts. I find it really difficult to explain how I feel, but I’ll try.

“When I started auditioning for this show, I knew it was special, especially because of the fact that Charlie Covell’s scripts touched me in a way that most things didn’t. I knew all of these people and I loved them all – every flaw, everything.

“For the first time in my life I was really proud. I’m obviously proud of everyone’s work and the care they put into this project because I can tell you, they left everything on the floor. But I was also proud of myself, and that’s something I’ve struggled with.

“When I was cast, I couldn’t believe anyone saw me. A girl who is not only a minority, but also a survivor of the SA – and you’re telling me that someone thinks I could be one of the leads of a show, have agency, pursue my own mission, and be desirable enough to be their lover to be not just one amazing person, but two? Was I worthy of this? Everything that happened from that point on really changed my perspective.

“As the journey continued, I began to learn more about the absolutely amazing talent that lies within – as if Charlie wasn’t enough. Then I found out about our directors Georgi (Banks-Davies) and Runyararo (Mapfumo). It continued with our incredible cast; There are far too many to list, but I must recognize the three who became lifelong friends, family, and lifelines during our month-long journey through Spain: Misia (Butler), Nabhaan (Rizwan), and Killian (Scott).

“Our wonderful HMU department, wardrobe department, Sister, Netflix, our production team and our entire crew – every single person involved was a hit. And there I sat and asked myself, how? Why me? And the answer I often got back was: Why not you?

“Everyone was brilliant and unique. Every performance surprised and thrilled me. I can’t believe I get to do this to all of you. We have created something strange, dark, funny, crazy and utterly tragic – something completely human. I want to take THIS feeling with me.”
