Boston Bruins-Florida Panthers preview: lines, time, TV, notes

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman remained behind for extra work after skating Tuesday morning at the FTL War Memorial Rink, an indication that he will not be in the starting lineup for tonight’s season opener against the Panthers.

“Game-time decision,” coach Jim Montgomery said, repeating his statement after Monday’s practice.

However, Joonas Korpisalo is likely to get the nod as he was the first goalkeeper to leave the ice after the morning training session.

Swayman remained to work with defender Parker Wotherspoon, who is likely to be a healthy replacement, and injured players Matt Poitras and Ian Mitchell.

The Bruins begin the season against the defending Stanley Cup champion Panthers, the team that led them out of the playoffs the last two years.

In this game, free agent signings Elias Lindholm and Nikita Zadorov make their regular season debuts for the Bruins. Both were poached from Vancouver in the summer as part of a reshuffle at the front and back.

Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m., but that could be pushed back a little later as the Panthers will raise their championship banner before then.

The game is scheduled to go ahead as planned despite Hurricane Milton barreling through Florida and expected to make landfall late Wednesday.

Bobrovsky had a strong season, finishing 36-17-4 with a 2.37 GAA and a .915 save percentage, which was enough to name him a Vezina finalist. … The Panthers are led by winger Matthew Tkachuk and center Aleksander Barkov, who each scored 22 points in Florida’s 24 playoff games last spring. Barkov is the franchise leader in games (737), goals (266), assists (445) and points (711). … The Panthers have brought back their eight top point scorers for their title defense.
