MLB playoff results, live updates: Mets vs. Phillies, Dodgers vs. Padres in NLDS Game 3

The two National League Division Series continue on Tuesday as the scene shifts to New York and San Diego for Game 3, with both series ending at 1-1.

The early matchup pits Aaron Nola for the Phillies against Sean Manaea for the Mets. Bryce Harper and Nick Castellanos were the stars of Game 2 for Philadelphia, with Harper hitting a massive two-run home run in the sixth inning, followed by a solo shot from Castellanos, who also hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning. Mark Vientos had a big game for the Mets with two home runs in the loss. He has a slash line of .400/.429/1.179 this postseason.

In the second game, Walker Buehler took the mound for the Dodgers against Michael King for the Padres. King was thoroughly dominant in his first start of the 2024 postseason, going seven innings and striking out 12 Atlanta Braves in a Game 1 win of the Wild Card Series. In 15 career postseason starts, Buehler has a 2.94 ERA and the Dodgers are 9-5 in those games. The Padres earned a 10-2 win in Game 2 behind two home runs from Fernando Tatis Jr., and the series could be exciting.

Here’s how to watch Tuesday’s NLDS action:

Live30 updates

  • Sean Manaea allows a leadoff infield single to Edmundo Sosa and his day is over. After seven strong innings, he receives a well-deserved ovation from the crowd at Citi Field.

  • Mets starter Sean Manaea is out again in the eighth inning with a 6-0 lead. He had 87 to seven pitches.

  • Disaster for the Phillies. Jose Iglesias struck out Jose Ruiz with the bases loaded to score two more runs. Pets Alonso was thrown out at home after unsuccessfully trying to score a third run. But the damage is done.

New York extends its lead to 6-0 after seven innings.

  • Jose Ruiz will allow the Phillies to reach the final out in the seventh with the bases loaded.

  • Phillies reliever Jose Alvarado gets two outs but runs the bases from there in the seventh. He’s finished.

  • Sean Manaea continues to act. He left the Phillies team after seven pitches in the seventh, including an inning-ending strikeout against Austin Hays. The Mets lead 4-0 in the seventh inning.

Manaea has allowed two hits and walked two in seven shutout innings with six strikeouts. It has 87 pitches. Will he come back for the eighth time?

  • New York starter Sean Manaea is out again in the seventh inning with the Mets leading 4-0.

  • The Mets add. Phillies reliever Orion Kerkering gets two outs after recovering a bases-loaded jam. But Starling Marte comes through for the Mets with a two-out line drive single that scores two runs.

The Mets doubled their lead to 4-0 before Kerkering got out of the sixth without further damage.

  • Orion Kerkering gets the call from the Phillies bullpen. In the sixth, the bases are loaded with no outs. Mets lead 2-0 and have a chance to open the game.

  • Aaron Nola’s day is over. He loaded the bases with a walk from Pete Alonso with the score 3-2. The Phillies bullpen will inherit a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the sixth.

  • What an innings from Sean Manaea. He shows his first signs of wear with back-to-back walks, putting two men on deck with no outs in the sixth and the heart of the Phillies’ order.

He responded by swinging at Bryce Harper and setting up a double play by Nick Castellanos to end the inning and keep the Phillies off the scoreboard.

The Mets lead 2-0 at the end of the sixth quarter.

  • Aaron Nola with a big reaction after giving up a second home run in the fourth inning. He knocked the team out in the fifth round, capped by a spirited third goal from Francisco Lindor.

Aside from the two solo home runs he allowed, he now has eight strikeouts in a strong game.

After five innings, the Mets lead 2-0.

  • Winker’s home run is followed by Sean Manaea with a 1-2-3 seven-pitch inning. He has allowed just two hits, four strikeouts and struck out five in 63 innings.

  • I can’t understand that about Jesse Winker. He smashes a home run into the top deck and the Mets are 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth.

  • Some big defensive highlights in this game so far.

  • It was a dramatic offseason.

  • Nick Castellanos makes a great catch on a potential extra-base hit by Jesse Winker. The catch remains when the test is repeated.

  • The Mets strike first, courtesy of Pete Alonso. The wild card series hero deflects a solo shot from Aaron Nola to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.
