The Vikings maintain their top-three spot in the current consensus power rankings

They nearly blew a double-digit lead for the second week in a row, but that didn’t stop the national media from continuing to hype the 5-0 Vikings.

Minnesota remained largely stagnant in this week’s power rankings. Of the eight we collected this week, the Vikings only changed position in one, while maintaining last week’s ranking in the other seven.

Eric Edholm noted that Vikings QB Sam Darnold “struggled worse than he has all season” but that he “made enough big throws” in crucial moments late in the game to secure the victory. Edholm said that even though it wasn’t a pretty win, “it’s okay to win ugly sometimes.”

Minnesota retained the top spot in Josh Kendall’s power rankings at The Athletic. Kendall pointed out the fantasy significance of the 5-0 start this season, including the fact that Sam Darnold is a top-15 fantasy QB this season. Meanwhile, Justin Jefferson falls short of his high fantasy draft status, while Aaron Jones was a “good pick.”

According to Pete Prisco, who has the Vikings trailing only the Chiefs, the Vikings’ offense “had some deficiencies” this week. Prisco praised Brian Flores for doing a “darn job” with a defense that “made it big again.”

Kevin Seifert commented that Darnold and Jones “performed well” this season. The Vikings remain at No. 2 in the ESPN rankings, once again trailing only Kansas City.

Minnesota’s 23-17 win over the Jets can be placed in the “quality wins” category for now, says Yahoo’s Frank Schwab. The Vikings retain their No. 2 spot, with Schwab noting that “no team has looked more complete this season.”

The Vikings are officially a top-three team in every power ranking we collect after FOX Sports pushed Minnesota down to No. 2 this week. FOX noted that it was Minnesota’s “sloppiest” win to date.

SI’s Connor Orr says that the Vikings’ “Supernova paint appears to be a little thinner” but that a 5-0 start has given them an “unbelievable start.”

Mike Florio keeps it short this week, saying the special teams “need work,” with one notable exception for kicker Will Reichard, who has converted on every kick this season: 9/9 on field goals and 16/16 on extra points .
