More than 4,000 Walmart stores will close for Thanksgiving, which falls on Nov. 28 this year, the chain announced.

Bosses have allowed workers to have the day off to celebrate the holiday with their families.

Since the late 1980s, Walmart supermarkets have always been open on Thanksgiving, but in 2020 the company broke with tradition.

Furner said the idea of ​​closing stores on Thanksgiving came from a Walmart employee in Texas.

Walmart stores are expected to open normal hours the day before Thanksgiving and on Black Friday.

Shoppers at Kroger, Albertsons and Whole Foods were warned that store hours would vary by location.
