Coldplay singer Chris Martin had a cheeky reaction when Hoda Kotb asked him why the band planned to retire from making music after two more albums.

The British band stopped by the TODAY Square on October 8 to perform some of their biggest hits and chatted with the TODAY hosts between songs.

Hoda, who recently announced she was stepping down from her role as co-host early next year, asked Martin to confirm rumors that Coldplay would retire from making music after their 12th album. (Their new album, “Moon Music,” is the band’s tenth.)

“Yes, that’s true,” Martin said.

“We are all against it. “Why is that?” asked Hoda.

“Aren’t you retiring soon?” Martin asked, drawing laughter from the TODAY anchors and the crowd.

“Hoda, I thought we had an agreement where we would make cookies together,” Martin said.

“OK!” Hoda replied.

“You wrote that to me. Are you backing out?” Martin continued.

“I would never back down,” Hoda said.

“I’ll stop the band for you,” Martin joked.

Later in the concert, Savannah Guthrie showed off her musical chops with a rendition of “Heart and Soul” with the 47-year-old frontman, who suggested she “go on tour” with the band.

“What happened to the cookie business?” Hoda joked.

The singer was on top form Tuesday morning when he teased NBC News’ Vicky Nguyen about her floral pants when she asked where the band’s musical inspiration came from.

“Most of our inspiration comes from your pants,” he joked.

Martin first revealed Coldplay’s retirement plans last month during an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1.

“We’re only going to make twelve real albums, and that’s true,” Martin said. “That limit means the quality control is so high at the moment and it’s almost impossible for a song to make it, which is great. So we’re trying to improve.”

Martin went on to explain why the band decided to release 12 albums.

“There are only seven Harry Potters. There are only 12 and a half Beatles albums, there’s about the same by Bob Marley, so all our heroes,” he said.

Once Coldplay is done making music, Martin hopes to continue making new music of his own and possibly collaborate on side projects with his bandmates.
