The United States will provide nearly $157 million in new humanitarian assistance to support conflict-affected populations in Lebanon and the region. This funding is intended to address new and existing needs of internally displaced people and refugee groups in Lebanon and the communities that host them. The aid is also intended to support those who are fleeing into neighboring Syria.

This life-saving assistance from the American people includes nearly $82 million immediately available through the U.S. Department of State’s Office of Population, Refugees and Migration and $75 million through the U.S. Agency for Humanitarian Assistance Office international development. Of this total, USAID has already committed $11.5 million and, working with Congress, plans to provide an additional $63.5 million in the coming weeks to ensure vital humanitarian assistance continues to reach the most vulnerable communities can. This emergency response of food, shelter, blankets, hygiene items, shelter, water and sanitation will be a vital lifeline for those who have endured unimaginable hardships.

The United States provided nearly $386 million last year to support vulnerable populations in Lebanon and Syria affected by worsening conflict. This new humanitarian assistance comes at a time of devastating humanitarian crisis in Lebanon, with more than a million people displaced from their homes. The United States is committed to helping the most vulnerable people in Lebanon and throughout the region. We call on other donors to join us in helping to address these new humanitarian needs.
