Trump announces rally in ‘war zone’ Colorado city

Former President Trump announced a campaign rally in Aurora, Colorado, on October 11 and promised to draw attention to the “surge” of migrants in the city.

The rally comes after Trump spent weeks harshly denouncing the refugee situation in Colorado, saying about 43,000 illegal immigrants had made their way to the nearby cities of Denver and Aurora. His campaign also highlighted the takeover of several residential buildings by the Tren De Aragua gang.

“Aurora, Colorado, has become a ‘war zone’ due to the influx of violent Venezuelan prison gang members from Tren de Aragua. “As approximately 43,000 migrants have flooded the neighboring city of Denver since December 2022, many of these migrants have made their way to Aurora, bringing chaos and fear,” the campaign said in a statement.

“Local families have been forced to flee their homes as Tren de Aragua members terrorize apartment complexes with weapons, theft and rampant drug trafficking. “Kamala Harris’ open borders policy is turning once-safe communities into nightmares for law-abiding citizens.” The statement continued.

“Kamala’s border bloodbath has turned every state into a border state and left Colorado families at the mercy of criminals. The only solution to stop the border crisis is to elect President Trump, who will secure the border, deport dangerous criminals and make America safe again,” the campaign added.

TREN DE ARAGUA GANG MEMBERS ARRESTED IN AURORA, COLORADO IN CONNECTION WITH HOME TAKEOVER: POLICE

Members of the Tren de Aragua gang first took over an apartment complex in Aurora in 2023. The Whispering Pines Apartments suffered violent attacks, death threats, extortion, child prostitution and fisticuffs, Denver law firm Perkins Coie wrote in a nine-page report to city leaders obtained by CBS News Colorado.

The company was hired to investigate the alleged gang takeover of the home, the outlet said. Before publishing the report, it interviewed witnesses and reviewed video footage from the complex.

“The evidence we reviewed suggests that gang members are engaged in blatant trespassing, assault, human trafficking and sexual abuse of minors, illegal firearms possession, extortion, and other criminal activities that often target vulnerable Venezuelan and other immigrant groups.” T. Markus Funk, a former U.S. attorney, wrote in the letter.

The firm interviewed the apartment complex’s property manager, who said, “He had never experienced anything even remotely comparable to Tren De Aragua’s acquisition of Whispering Pines in his entire career.”
