BOSTON – Bill Belichick has found his comfort zone in sports media. During his appearance on the Manningcast on Monday night, former head coach Peyton Manning took heat for the loud crowd noise in the RCA Dome during yesterday’s famous Patriots-Colts battles.

With the crowd at Arrowhead Stadium always raucous as the Kansas City Chiefs hosted the New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football, Manning decided it was time to pick the brain of one of the greatest head coaches of all time. Manning asked Belichick how he would simulate such a loud environment to prepare his team.

Manning likely wasn’t prepared for Belichick’s response, in which he criticized the Indianapolis Colts for creating fake crowd noise during games at the RCA Dome.

“Well, I’m telling you, Peyton, the crowd noise there at Arrowhead wasn’t as bad as it was when you played music at the RCA Dome,” Belichick shot. β€œThen when the crowd noise died down, we knew you pumped it in.”

Boom. Roasted!

Manning took the jab in stride, laughed and responded with an “Okay, okay,” while Eli Manning chuckled at the exchange from a distance. It showed great restraint that Peyton did not bring up the few times Belichick and the Patriots were accused of strange dealings on (or off) the field.

But the stories of the Colts spreading false crowd noise are nothing new, especially for Patriots fans who lived through the Pats-Colts rivalry in the early to mid-2000s. The most famous instance of the Colts making their stadium artificially loud occurred after the 2006 AFC Championship Game in Indy, when the Colts defeated the Patriots 38-34 and went on to win Manning’s only Super Bowl in a Colts jersey.

Belichick obviously has such a good relationship with Manning that he gets to spend these fun moments with his former enemy. And Manning doesn’t seem to mind attacking Belichick either.
