Sunshine, warmer and breezy for Metro Detroit to end the weekend; Track down Milton

4Weather warningNWS Detroit just issued a Red Flag Warning for Genesee and Livingston counties until 8 p.m.

As this cold front moves through, wind gusts of up to 30 mph are possible today, and with low relative humidity levels behind the front, any fires that start outside could quickly grow out of control.

We’ll be keeping a close eye on this tonight.

SUNDAY: Partly cloudy skies, warmer and windy. High: 77. Wind: W 10-20 MPH with gusts as high as 30 MPH.

SUNDAY EVENING: Mainly clear skies, cooler temperatures. Low: 48. Wind: NW 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY: Mostly sunny skies. Cooler temperatures. Maximum speed: 65. Wind: NW 5-10 MPH with gusts up to 20 MPH.

MONDAY EVENING: Mainly clear skies. A cool night. Low: 44. Wind: NW 3-6 MPH.

After some sunshine at the start of the weekend, we will keep dry weather in the forecast until the end of the weekend.

On Sunday there will be a breakthrough of the cold front in the morning hours. This will bring a small chance of showers early in the day, but will not result in a total decline by the end of the weekend. High temperatures will be warmer, reaching the mid to upper 70s by Sunday afternoon. It will also be windy as we travel throughout the day, with winds blowing up to 30 mph for most of the day on Sunday.

Looking ahead to next week, high pressure will have a firm grip on the forecast for most of the week. There will be some light cloud cover with some sunshine on Monday before more sunshine than anything else is expected by the middle of next week. Temperatures will also be much more seasonable, reaching into the mid-60s for most of next week

We’ll get some sunshine and expect some more cloud cover by the end of next week on Friday. High temperatures will warm up, warming to the low to mid 70s on Friday by the end of the week.

We’re also keeping an eye on the tropics this morning as Tropical Storm Milton formed on Saturday and is forecast to strengthen through the end of the weekend and into early next week.

The National Hurricane Center’s current forecast calls for Milton to develop into a major hurricane and make landfall along Florida’s west coast on Wednesday as a Category 3 hurricane. These areas are just recovering from Hurricane Helene about a week and a half ago and now face another major hurricane making landfall this week. Hurricane and storm surge warnings are expected to be issued for parts of the Florida Peninsula on Sunday. If you have family or friends or are planning on traveling to Florida this week, keep a close eye on Milton.
