Donald Trump says he will make a campaign stop in Colorado and speak at a rally in Aurora

Republican presidential candidate and former President Donald Trump says he will make a campaign stop in Colorado this week and speak at a rally in Aurora. He made the announcement in a press release sent out by his campaign on Monday evening.

“We are aware that former President Trump plans to visit Aurora on Friday. The city, including the Aurora Police Department, will work with its partner agencies as requested,” the city of Aurora said in an email Monday evening.

The event will take place Friday afternoon at the Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center, located on the far north side of the city and near Denver International Airport.

Doors to the rally are scheduled to open at 10 a.m. and Trump is expected to speak at 1 p.m

Trump first said he would visit Aurora during a Sept. 18 rally. He falsely claimed that the city had been taken over by the United States a criminal gang from Venezuela and in Monday’s press release, he said the city had become a “war zone” “due to the influx of violent Venezuelan prison gang members.” His goal with the visit is to show voters that Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris is weak on immigration and border policy and that his campaign team believes this has led to disastrous results.

The Colorado Democratic Party shared a statement in response to the former president’s planned visit to the state on Monday evening. “The last time Donald Trump came to Colorado, he helped ensure that Cory Gardner would lose his election, and he appears poised to do the same to Republican candidates across the state when he visits Aurora this Friday,” Shad Murib, chairman of the Colorado Democratic Party, said in the press release. “Coloradons are not fooled: Trump is not coming to Aurora to talk about empowering working people and creating a safer, more prosperous America; Trump is coming to spew hatred and division that does not reflect the Colorado we fight for every day.” Hopefully he plays his greatest hits before his fans leave the rally early, as usual.

“Donald Trump’s record in Colorado has been a total failure. From trying to play political games with our national security by pushing Space Command out of Colorado Springs to raising the cost of living for working people and starting a misguided trade war that hurt farmers and others, Colorado is ready “Elect Vice President Harris and a Democratic House of Representatives to reject the Trump/Vance 2025 agenda,” the Democrats’ statement continued.

CBS News Colorado reached out to the Colorado Republican Party Monday evening and was awaiting a response.

A Day after Trump’s first announcementAurora Mayor Mike Coffman, a Republican, said that if Trump did come, he would like to make it clear to the former president that the situation in Aurora is not what his campaign is portraying.

“I see it as an opportunity to show him around the city and refute the narrative that this city is out of control when it comes to Venezuelan gangs,” Coffman said at the time.
