FIU vs. Liberty prediction, odds and key players to watch in Week 7 of college football

Liberty and Florida International meet in the first Tuesday night game of the 2024 college football season!

The Flames remain in the College Football Playoff mix but have yet to lose a regular-season game under head coach Jamey Chadwell since he took over last season, and the team will look to continue their dominance against Conference USA foe FIU on Tuesday night continue at home.

How should we bet on this predicted collapse? Here’s everything you need to know for Tuesday’s CUSA action.

Florida International

Keyone Jenkins: Jenkins has improved significantly in his first full season as the Panthers’ quarterback. He completed nearly 63% of his passes and threw for nine touchdowns with four interceptions (three in the same game). He will face a Liberty defense that is elite this season, ranking 12th in EPA/Play, but has yet to face strong offenses.

Freedom

Kadion Salter: Salter was efficient for one of the best Group of Five teams in the country, completing 64% of his passes for 949 yards, seven touchdowns through the air and just one interception.

Liberty has a cover this season, a touchdown run last season clinching a spread win against East Carolina after trailing by 17 points early in the game.

The team will face a much-improved FIU team that is 3-1 against the team as an underdog. Can it win by the necessary margin if both teams are given more time to prepare?

After the Flames’ 38-6 win last season, I believe Jamey Chadwell’s offense can find answers for the Panthers’ defense, but not enough to push the record past a fairly average result.

Neither team plays too fast, with FIU ranking 50th in seconds per game and Liberty 90th this season, and the Panthers defense has been elite at shutting down explosive passing plays, ranking first in EPA/Play 21st place.

Meanwhile, FIU’s offense appears to be limited, scoring 20 or fewer in three of four games against FBS competition this season.

Liberty may win by the necessary margin, but I believe it will fall short of the total.

SELECTION: UNDER 54.5
