Pennsylvania wraps up Trump-Butler rally voter registration night

The voter registration system in the swing state of Pennsylvania will be closed on the night of former President Donald Trump’s return rally in Butler, the site of the July 13 assassination attempt against him.

The Republican candidate announced Sept. 25 that he would hold another rally in Butler on Oct. 5, just three months after a gunman shot the former president and wounded his ear at a rally there.

“This website is undergoing scheduled system maintenance and will be unavailable from 10 p.m. Saturday, October 5th to 4 a.m. October 6,” the Pennsylvania voter registration website states. “We thank you for your understanding.”

Vice President Kamala Harris and Trump are neck-and-neck in Pennsylvania, with the vice president leading by a point, according to a new poll.

When the poll includes likely voters who say they lean toward a candidate, Harris and Trump are deadlocked at 49% each.

Butler County, the site of the rally, is historically a Republican stronghold.

At Saturday’s rally, Trump will honor father and firefighter Corey Comperatore, who was fatally shot at the rally in July, as well as David Dutch and James Copenhaver, who were injured by the assassin’s bullets that day.

“President Donald J. Trump will return to Butler, Pennsylvania, to hold a rally at the same grounds where he came just a quarter of an inch away from losing his life less than three months ago,” the campaign statement said Trump.

The rally is being held at the same Butler Farm Show grounds where Thomas Matthew Crooks shot the former president in the ear 12 weeks earlier.

The Pennsylvania Department of State and the Trump campaign did not respond to the Daily Signal’s request for comment.
