Trebek died on November 8, 2020, after being diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer less than two years earlier. He was 80 years old.

In the years since then Danger! has done several things to pay tribute to the icon. Trebek recorded his final episodes of the show until weeks before his death, which aired posthumously.

“You will remember that about a month ago I asked all of you to take a moment and give thanks for all the blessings you enjoy in your lives,” Trebek said in his final monologue.

“Today, a different kind of message. This is the season of giving. I know you want to be generous to your family, friends and loved ones, but today I want you to go a step further,” he continued. “I want you to open your hands and your heart to those who are still suffering because of COVID-19. People who are suffering through no fault of their own. We are trying to build a gentler, kinder society. If we all help out just a little bit, we will get there.”
