Russell Wilson may not be active for tonight’s game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Dallas Cowboys, but Mother Nature certainly was.

The Week 5 “Sunday Night Football” matchup between the Steelers and Cowboys was a highly anticipated matchup between two of the NFL’s most storied franchises, but the typical 8:20 p.m. ET kickoff time for “SNF” matchups was delayed due to weather.

Lightning and rain in the area delayed the game’s kickoff, sending fans indoors and players back to their respective locker rooms.

Here’s the latest on the weather over Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh:

Fans will have to wait a little longer than usual for “Sunday Night Football” to begin. Due to a storm near Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh, the game is delayed in a flash.

By 9:17 p.m. the weather around Acrisure Stadium had cleared and fans returned to their seats. At this point, the band of weather surrounding Pittsburgh appeared to pass over the stadium.

According to Weather.com, a severe thunderstorm warning was in effect for Pittsburgh. The forecast said the chance of rain would peak at 9 p.m. ET (89 percent), after which “severe thunderstorms” would occur in the area.

According to USA TODAY Sports’ Jarrett Bell, fans were told to seek shelter indoors or in the FedEx Great Hall, a trophy room and memorial plaque at the stadium.

NFL policy dictates that the 30-minute clearance period restarts each time lightning strikes the area.

According to the NBC broadcast, players are expected to be back on the field around 9:25 p.m. ET, with kickoff scheduled for 9:45 p.m. ET due to a delay due to rain.
