Player ratings: Fiorentina 2-1 AC Milan

AC Milan’s winning streak in the league came to an end on Sunday evening as Fiorentina won 2-1 at the Stadio Artemio Franchi. Several players could have done much better with a few fatal errors, and below are the player ratings for the Rossoneri.

If you haven’t already, be sure to check it out how we decide on player ratings. From the scale to the impact on the rating, we have put everything together there.

Starting XI

Maignan (7): He did his job tonight, saving a penalty and distributing the ball well with his feet. He couldn’t do anything about the goal and has every right to insult his teammates.

Emerson Royal (5.5): A few bad passes and problems in the duels, but it wasn’t all that bad from him, at least not compared to some of his teammates. There wasn’t enough for a pass here, but he wasn’t the main culprit.

Gabbia (6): The academy product won the penalty missed by Abraham and put up a good fight in the duels with Kean. On the second goal he was completely thwarted by Tomori and was clearly the better of the two tonight.

Tomori (4.5): It was a fatal mistake for the Englishman to completely misjudge De Gea’s long ball and Fiorentina made the most of it. He also appeared rather shaky in the other duels and was therefore unable to convince tonight.

Hernandez (4.5): He may have got the assist for Pulisic, but Pulisic did 90% of the work. Previously he caused a penalty (very cheap, I know) and also missed one. His strike wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t fantastic either, not to mention he was lucky not to cause another penalty later on. Worst of all, he received a red card after the game for yelling at the referee. It remains to be seen how long he will be suspended, probably two games (Udinese and Bologna next). A terrible birthday for him.

Pulisic (7 – MOTM): He was almost always available on the right wing and was able to combine well with his teammates. The finish on goal was simply fantastic and he deserves a lot of praise for that. I’m not sure why Fonseca thought it would be a good idea to replace him.

Fofana (6): It wasn’t always spectacular, but he won several 50-50 duels in the center of the park and made life difficult for Gudmundsson on several occasions. He can still improve his passing in attack, but there is no doubt what he brings to the team defensively.

Reijnders (5.5): The Dutchman won the penalty after a run into the box, but honestly we expect to see a lot more from him. He struggled a bit early in the game, and as he grew into it, he never really had the X-factor that we often see from him.

Leao (5.5): He had two good runs, one that led to a powerful shot and another that almost set up Pulisic to make it 2-1, but otherwise struggled to make a difference for Milan. Still, given these two chances, it’s a bit strange that he was substituted.

Abraham (5): If you take the second penalty after the first one is missed, you’d better make sure to score. Especially if another player wants to take it over (Pulisic). Abraham failed and also missed two other good chances in the second half, so it’s not good enough.

Morata (5.5): He had to retreat a lot more than he would have liked, that was clear, and he was never really 100% in combination play with his teammates.

Substitute

Okafor (5.5): The move may have been strange, but the Swiss international got past his man a few times. Other than that, no real impact.

Chukwueze (5.5): A good shot coming off the bench and then a great run that ended with a terrible shot. A mixed mood, as is usual with him.
