Andrew Garfield has recalled how he and co-star Florence Pugh “didn’t hear a cut” while filming a sex scene for their upcoming film. We live in time.

In the film, Garfield and Pugh play Tobias and Almut, a couple who meet by chance.

The contemporary love story tells how the couple falls in love, starts a family and struggles with a cancer diagnosis.

Garfield is set to hit cinemas in the UK in early 2025 and recently spoke about one scene in particular.

Speaking to Josh Horowitz at the 92nd Street Y in New York, Garfield explained what happened when he and Pugh didn’t hear the cameraman call “cut” during a particularly passionate sex scene.

“We did the first take of this very intimate, passionate scene and it’s a closed set, meaning it’s just me and Florence and the cameraman, a lovely man named Stuart,” Garfield said.

“And he’s very polite and very sweet and gentle. The director is in another room next door.

“And so the scene becomes passionate and we sort of get into it and go a little further than we should. It feels safe and we just… go from the next thing to the next thing and… We let it go on and just keep going.”

Garfield explained that at one point he looked up and saw that Stuart had the camera at his side and was standing in the corner of the room facing the wall, seemingly waiting for them to stop.

One fan commented: “How good of character do you have to be for this to happen?”

While another said: “This is so awkward but kudos to the cameraman for his consideration!”

And a third added: “Sounds like a hilarious but awkward moment on set! Andrew and Florence must have been so engrossed in the scene that they completely lost track of everything around them.”

Garfield and Pugh recently spoke about their experiences filming We live in timewith Pugh stating that it was only the second time she had used her natural English accent in the film, while Garfield admitted that it was the first time he had used his own.

“This is my second film with my own voice, but that was a long time ago,” Pugh said.

Meanwhile, Garfield added: “I think it’s maybe the first time that I’m like – yeah, yeah, that’s right.”

The film is scheduled to hit cinemas in the UK on January 1, 2025.
