Joker 2 beats Madame Web and Morbius and makes cinema history in the worst way possible

Joker 2 seems to be in serious trouble.

After months, if not years, of anticipation, the sequel to Todd Phillips’ 2019 film is here joker is finally here – and it’s safe to say it doesn’t quite live up to expectations.

Published on October 4th, Joker: Folie à Deux sees Joaquin Phoenix reprise his Oscar-winning role as Arthur Fleck, with Lady Gaga as Dr. Harleen Quinzel aka Harley Quinn joins the cast.

Initial reviews of the film following its premiere at the Venice Film Festival last month were mixed, with some other negative reviews.

It currently has an early Rotten Tomatoes score of 33 percent among critics and a paltry audience score of 31 percent based on over 2,500 verified views.

The bad news keeps coming because the sequel is making cinema history for all the wrong reasons.

Accordingly The Hollywood Reporter, Joker: Folie à Deux is the first Hollywood comic book film to receive a “D” grade on its first day in theaters, spelling doom for its future at the box office. For comparison: joker received a positive CinemaScore of B+.

CinemaScore measures a film’s appeal by surveying early reactions to major releases.

The sequel’s D rating puts it on par with Russell Crowe’s terribly rated horror film The exorcismwhich is said to be the only other film in the post-pandemic era to perform as poorly as D Collider.

Even Francis Ford Coppola is incredibly divisive Megalopolis managed to get a higher score with a D+.

With a D CinemaScore, Joker 2 is the worst-reviewed studio comic film of all time, falling even short of the much-maligned ones Batman and Robin, MorbiusAnd Madam Weball of which were graded C+.

Compared to 2019 joker debuted with $96.2m (£73m) on its way to a total of $1bn (£762m).

Critics are just as unimpressed by the film as the audience New York Times He called it a “half-baked, half-hearted musical.”

“Phoenix’s performance also remains powerful and thrilling. The genius of this is that we can’t help but care for Arthur, despite his neediness and confusion.”

Joker: Folie à Deux is now in cinemas.
