International pop star Dua Lipa visited Austin’s La Barbecue restaurant this October 2024 weekend before the singer headlined the Austin City Limits Music Festival.

The “Houdini” singer and her group visited the neighborhood barbecue restaurant Holly on Friday. Owner Ali Clem tells Eater that everyone was “very nice” and everything was ordered family style. These include beef brisket, pork ribs, sausages and side dishes. “It was important for her to choose a side,” Clem wrote in a text message. “The peels and cheese didn’t stand a chance.” She said the group stayed for almost two hours and visited the smokers on site.

Dua Lipa generally has great taste when it comes to food and drink (including reading), so choosing La Barbecue makes perfect sense for her. If Eater had to guess where else she’d go in Austin this expected week, we’d guess the cool Lolo wine bar in East Austin, as well as one of Eater Austin’s Eater 38 restaurants.

Dua Lipa’s two ACL dates are a big deal for fans of her latest album Radical optimism and the current tour, as they are two of technically the only three dates in America this year, which also includes the last-minute added iHeartRadio Music Festival show in Las Vegas last September.

La Barbecue is nothing new for celebrity guests. Earlier this year, Prince Harry and Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle stopped by the restaurant during South by Southwest to eat brisket and sausages. Likewise, Jay-Z ordered smoked meats from La Barbecue during his two headlining sets at ACL Fest in 2017.
