Preview | Rapids faces their final home game of the regular season against Seattle Sounders FC in the deciding game of the Western Conference

The Colorado Rapids (15-12-5, 50 pts) host Seattle Sounders FC (15-9-8, 53 pts) this Saturday, October 5th. Kickoff at DICK’S Sporting Goods Park is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. MT.

In what will be the penultimate MLS game of the 2024 regular season for both teams, Saturday’s result will play an important role in how the Western Conference playoffs unfold. With the Sounders currently in third place and the Rapids in sixth, a positive result on either side will likely shift the seedings as the league heads into decision day on October 19thTh.

On Saturday, the Rapids will look to avenge their recent result at DICK’S Sporting Goods Park. The club lost 3-1 at home to Western Conference leaders LA Galaxy last Wednesday evening. Connor Ronan scored the only goal for Colorado as the club ended its 13-game unbeaten streak at the end of the DSGP. Despite the loss, the Rapids are still in prime position to move up in the conference standings, with just three points separating the two clubs in third and sixth place.

The Sounders head into Saturday’s game on a high note after defeating Vancouver Whitecaps FC 3-0 in their last game. Giorgi Minoungo, Albert Rusnak and Paul Rothrock all got on the scoresheet as the club continued their impressive recent form. Seattle is undefeated in its last five MLS games, with a record of 4-0-1 and a goal difference of +10 during that span.

While the Rapids lost their last home game, DSGP has proven to be a fortress for the club, boasting one of the best home records in MLS this season. Colorado’s 10 home wins in 2024 are good for the second-most in the conference, behind only the Galaxy’s 12. Before Wednesday, the Rapids had not recorded a loss in DSGP in 13 consecutive games in all competitions.

Saturday’s game will be the second time these two have met this season, the first taking place back in March at Lumen Field. The club played to a 1-1 draw, with Kévin Cabral scoring the Rapids’ only goal in a difficult game at the start of the season.

As the game is DSGP’s final regular season home game this season, the club will celebrate its fans at Fan Appreciation Night. There will be festivities honoring Rapids fans throughout the evening. Further information about the evening can be found here.
