A hands-to-the-face penalty was assessed after 15 yards. The Wolverines had a chance to keep the drive alive with a third-and-2 from the UW 26, but Kalel Mullings was blown up in the backfield and lost, leading to a 45-yard field goal by Dominic Zvada.

9:38 – Michigan made a change at QB and it paid off. Jack Tuttle, who had not yet played this season, replaced Alex Orji and led the team on a seven-play, 75-yard touchdown drive. He completed his only pass for 5 yards, but it was his legs that got the offense going, rushing twice for 14 yards. Donovan Edwards found the rhythm on the drive and ended it with a 39-yard touchdown run. Orji was 3 of 7 passing for 15 yards.

14:51 – Michigan started at 21 and got a first down after two runs by Donovan Edwards, but the third attempt backfired. Washington outgained Michigan 142 to 47 yards.

FIRST QUARTER

Washington 7, Michigan 0

2:33 – Quick three-and-out for the Wolverines after they were forced into a third-and-8. Kalel Mullings opened with a 2-yard run, but Alex Orji’s pass was deflected at the line of scrimmage in the second. He was unable to gain a lead on third down, which resulted in a punt.

Washington 7, Michigan 0

12:03 – Michigan had a promising start to the drive, which started under its own steam. Kalel Mullings opened with a tough 7-yard run, followed by a 6-yard completion by Alex Orji to tight end Colston Loveland. After a QB draw by Orji on a third-and-3, it picked up another first down, but ended with a punt on fourth-and-4 at the Washington 45. Jeff Persi, who was at left tackle in place of the injured Myles Hinton started, was in the process. A false start of the drive was reported.

— Michigan has ruled out three starters for Saturday: left tackle Myles Hinton, center Dominick Giudice and edge Derrick Moore. Both Hinton and Giudice were questionable all week, but Moore’s absence is a surprise.

— Starting cornerback Will Johnson is listed as questionable but is expected to play after sitting out last week’s win over Minnesota.

How to watch Michigan vs. Washington (10/5/24): Live stream, TV channel, kickoff time

Both teams lost most of their production from last season and had a combined 23 players selected in the April NFL Draft. The two programs also have new head coaches: No. 10 Michigan (4-1, 2-0 Big Ten) promotes longtime assistant Sherrone Moore and Washington (3-2, 1-1) brings in Jedd Fisch from Arizona.

The Huskies, with only two starters returning in 2023, are a slight favorite and could be 5-0 if it weren’t for red zone inefficiency and field goal shooting issues. They settled for four field goals in a 24-19 loss to Washington State in Week 3 and lost 21-18 to Rutgers last week while missing three field goals and outgaining the Scarlet Knights 521 yards to 299 .

However, they have yet to allow a touchdown at home and are 3-0.

Michigan has won each of its last two games by a score of 27-24 with junior Alex Orji at center. In those two starts, he combined to complete 17 of 30 passes for just 118 yards, but the running game and defense were solid enough to avoid another loss.

Saturday marks the first meeting between the two programs as Big Ten opponents and the first at Husky Stadium since 2001. Michigan leads the all-time series at 9-5.
