Flash Flood Warning for Augusta County: National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Sterling has issued a flash flood warning for east central Augusta County and south central Rockingham County.

At 5:59 p.m., Doppler radar indicated that thunderstorms with heavy rain were occurring in the warned area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain fell. Additional rainfall amounts of 1.3 to 2.5 centimeters are possible in the warning area.

WHERE: Augusta and Rockingham counties, VA

Locations that will experience flash flooding include Grottoes, Crimora, Weyers Cave, New Hope, Mount Sidney, Port Republic, Staunton Airport, Montevideo and Rocky Bar

WHEN: 6:00 p.m. to Friday 9:00 p.m

Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

DANGER: Flash flooding from thunderstorms.

SOURCE: Radar

IMPACT: Flash flooding of small streams and creeks, urban areas, highways, streets and subways, and other poorly drained and low-lying areas.

PRECAUTIONS: Turn around and avoid drowning if you encounter flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be particularly careful at night when the risk of flooding is harder to detect.
