North Carolina State QB Grayson McCall was carried off the field on a stretcher during the first half of his team’s game against Wake Forest.

McCall took a massive hit while running the ball in the third. His helmet flew off when he was hit in the head and he appeared to be unconscious when he hit the ground. The hit was not marked for targeting.

McCall made his first start since Sept. 14 against Louisiana Tech. He left the game with what the team said was an undisclosed injury. After leaving the game, he went to the locker room with a towel over his head and did not return.

The transfer from Coastal Carolina is in his first season with the Wolfpack and Saturday’s hit appears to be at least the second head injury in the last 12 months. In October 2023, McCall became unconscious and suffered a concussion when he was hit while sliding. McCall’s head hit the turf on that play.

This success ended McCall’s career at CCU as he did not return for the remainder of the season. McCall was one of the most productive QBs in college football for five years with the Chanticleers. As the team’s starting QB, he threw for over 10,000 yards and had 88 TD passes with just 14 interceptions in more than three years.
