The warming trend begins today across Boston

You may still need a sweater or vest on hand as you head out the door, as there will be patchy fog on the way to work as temperatures start in the mid-50s. Yesterday’s heat was able to escape quickly, with minimal humidity in the atmosphere to keep the heat at the surface.

Today’s highs are expected to reach lows again into the mid-70s.

Not much to complain about today as the weekend started well and the weather is suitable for outdoor activities this evening after work.

Later tonight there will be another fast-moving cold front moving into western New England, potentially bringing a few scattered showers. However, the rain activity will only reach the city during the night hours and will only be very weak.

There may be increasing cloudiness ahead of the front, but with the sun setting before 6:30 p.m., cloud cover won’t play as much of a role and may actually provide warmer surface temperatures tonight.

Weekend Outlook – Boston

Saturday may start with mostly cloudy skies and a few scattered showers as the trailing edge of the cold front moves through the city in the morning. There will be a gradual change from a southerly flow to a more northwesterly flow, although this may not occur until late afternoon, allowing skies to clear and sun to shine and temperatures to fall back into the low to mid 70s.

By Sunday, the new high pressure zone will settle in with very dry and cool air. This is expected to occur on Sunday with mostly sunny skies and high temperatures in the mid to upper 60s and a steady northerly flow.

Weekend Outlook – Region

Southern New England: A mix of sun and clouds on Friday, another warm day ahead. Temperatures will rise to the low and mid 70s, warmer if you live away from the coast. Early morning showers and cloudy skies on Saturday will give way to a nicer afternoon as temperatures remain around 70°. Sunday will be bright but cooler, with a northerly flow bringing in cool, dry air from Canada. Highs will only reach the mid to upper 60s.

Western fair: It’s a warm Friday ahead with increasing cloudiness throughout the day. Both the Berkshires and the Pioneer Valley should reach 70 degrees. A few scattered showers will occur later this evening, but these shouldn’t amount to too much rain. The showers will ease on Saturday and the clouds will decrease in the morning. Temperatures could reach the 70s before the switch to a northerly flow begins. Sunday looks mostly sunny and dry, with temperatures in the 60s in the Berkshires and near 70 degrees again in the Pioneer Valley.

Cape and Islands: Friday will see variable clouds with streaks of sunshine as temperatures reach the upper 60s. Scattered early morning showers on Saturday will cause clouds to decrease throughout the day as temperatures near 70°. On Sunday, cool air will return to the peninsula and islands with sunny skies and high temperatures around 60°C.

Northern New England: On Friday, skies were partly cloudy and temperatures reached 70 degrees in all three states. Showers will begin to creep into Vermont and into New Hampshire and Maine late Friday and overnight. There will be more clouds on Saturday and there will be a few more showers in Maine during the first half of the day. A northerly flow will move in, keeping temperatures in the mid to upper 60s on Saturday. Sunday will be a nice day with cooler air. Most northern New England residents will see temperatures dip into the mid-60s.

This is peak foliage season in much of central and northern Vermont and New Hampshire. It’s going to be a great weekend of exploring.
