With a few exceptions, most of Netflix’s new additions in October are movie-related. There are new seasons of Heart stopper And The Lincoln Lawyerboth hits in their own right for Netflix. SWAT Season 7 is also coming to Netflix this week, and it’s proving to be a success. But deciding on the one Netflix show to watch in October was easy. It is Yellowjackets.

Showtime debuted Yellowjackets in 2021 and quickly became the premium cable channel’s biggest original series in years. The series follows a girls’ high school soccer team that mostly survives a crash landing in the wilderness before having to make tough decisions to survive. It’s hard not to see the influence of Lost about this series, especially since it offers a look back at the lives of the surviving women in the present. It’s not surprising Yellowjackets is now one of the most popular series on Netflix and we’ll tell you the reasons why you should watch this series next.

The show successfully juggles two narratives

It’s no small thing Yellowjackets to hold viewers’ attention when the flashbacks to the girls’ time in the wilderness are by far the most interesting part of the show. But events in the present reflect what happened in the past, especially as relationships between survivors have changed dramatically in the more than two decades since their most desperate hours. The show offers insight into what the Yellowjackets team did to survive, to help us understand why they are so reluctant to address the subject in the future.

Additionally, there is ongoing tension over who made it out of the wilderness, as some of the characters from the past are noticeably absent from the present-day storyline.

The casting team behind it Yellowjackets deserves a lot of credit for enlisting veteran actors like Christina Ricci, Juliette Lewis and Lauren Ambrose as three of the adult Yellowjackets, while Melanie Lynskey and Tawny Cypress do the best work of their careers in their own leading roles.

Yellowjackets has also been a means of star-making for Sophie Thatcher, Sophie Nélisse and Jasmin Savoy Brown. Stand outElla Purnell, the film’s lead actress, also received a boost from her involvement in this series. It’s a sign of a series’ success when other television series and films come along and offer the cast new roles.

The characters in both time periods are captivating to watch

One of the biggest tricks of this series is that it’s easy to get caught up in the idea that the younger cast members, like Sophie Nélisse – who plays teenage Shauna Shipman – are aging into their adult counterparts, as portrayed by Lynskey. There is intrigue in the past, but a lot of the drama comes from seeing how broken Shauna and the other women are in the present. We don’t have all the answers yet as to what happened to them, but the pilot episode includes a flash-forward that suggests things are about to get a lot worse.

One of the most fascinating characters is Misty Quigley, played by Samantha Hanratty and Christina Ricci respectively. Misty is the outsider on the team and not particularly popular. And then Misty takes some very morally questionable actions that shed light on why her future self is even worse than some of the other survivors.

The bad news is that only season 1 of Yellowjackets is currently on Netflix. Presumably the second season will be added at a later date. But if you don’t want to wait, Yellowjackets Season 2 awaits you on Paramount+ with Showtime’s premium tiers. Additionally, Yellowjackets Season 3 is in the works and is expected to premiere on Showtime in 2025. So if you want more of this show after seasons 1 and 2, you will get it in the near future.

Regard Yellowjackets To Netflix.
