Couple arrested in major drug raid at South Side home, now facing federal police charges

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Federal prosecutors are facing charges against a man and a woman who were arrested Thursday during a major drug raid at a South Side home.

Isaac Martinez-Mendez, 38, and Alicia Dominguez Garcia, who turns 39 next week, were both taken into custody at their home in the 700 block of Fitch Street.

Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar then held a press conference to discuss the case.

He said during a raid, investigators discovered about $2.5 million worth of methamphetamine, tens of thousands of dollars in cash and cocaine in the home.

Salazar said the raid was conducted after his gang unit initially conducted a traffic stop on Martinez-Mendez and found drugs in his car.

“The first discovery is that there was a Pamper’s box that had this stuff hidden in it,” he said.

As they searched the house, Salazar said the team realized they had evidence of a major operation.

At the time of the news conference, the sheriff said he was unsure whether state or federal charges would be filed against the couple. However, court records Friday morning showed that both are accused of committing a “federal crime.”

“Due to the high value of the drugs, so many of which were found at once, we can assume that there are cartel connections,” Salazar said.

KSAT 12 News returned to the neighborhood Friday morning to speak with people who live nearby.

No one was willing to speak on camera. All said the possibility that the couple was connected to a gang or cartel frightened them.

Most neighbors who spoke to news crews off-camera said they had no idea the suspects were allegedly selling drugs.

A woman said she noticed unusual behavior in the house but still didn’t suspect it was a drug operation.
