Blockbuster trade idea brings ex-Eagles star to Lions

A former member of the Philadelphia Eagles will likely move on soon.

Philadelphia dealt star linebacker Haason Reddick to the New York Jets ahead of the 2024 season, and it looks like one of the smartest moves of the offseason. Next season is already four weeks old and week five action is scheduled to begin on Thursday evening.

Reddick has not yet taken the field or even reported to the Jets’ facilities. He wants a new deal and won’t come forward without one. The Jets won’t discuss a deal unless he comes forward. It’s a complete mess, with no end in sight. At this point, it looks like the trade will be a relative failure for the Jets.

It doesn’t look like he’ll play for the organization, and New York could end up trading him to recoup some assets.

There has been more speculation about a possible move every week, and Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox names the Detroit Lions as a possible landing spot for him in his NFL trade block big board list for Week 5.

“We will keep our argument short here,” Knox said. “Pass rusher Haason Reddick, who has recorded double-digit sacks in each of the last four seasons, will likely remain in our top spot as long as he refuses to play for the New York Jets. The 30-year-old is a proven playmaker at one of the best positions in the NFL. There should be no shortage of teams interested in signing him.

“Reddick would also be a logical trade target for the Lions, who recently lost edge rusher Marcus Davenport to a biceps injury. The addition of Reddick would give Detroit a top-notch complement opposite Aidan Hutchinson and help bolster a defense that showed some vulnerability against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 4.”

This isn’t the first time Detroit has been mentioned, and it probably won’t be the last. Hopefully the saga will end soon.
