A new environmental study released last week by Frontier Group ranks CPS Energy’s JK Spruce coal-fired power plant among the top 50 plants in the country with the highest greenhouse gas emissions.

A follow-up analysis of the study by Environment Texas finds that not only is Texas home to eight of these facilities, but the Lone Star State also emits nearly twice as many greenhouse gases as any other state.

The group attributes 170 additional deaths between 1999 and 2020 to pollution caused by the JK Spruce Power Plant in the southeast of the city.
